About The Author

Barbara A. Hawley is author of the Julie Mitchell mystery series for readers ages 9-13. Barbara grew up in the Philippine Islands where her parents were medical missionaries. She has written for Among Worlds magazine for Adult Third Culture Kids, and Childhood Regained, a collection of stories about child labor in Asia. Besides the Philippines, Barbara has lived in Indiana, New Jersey, Ohio, and Pennsylvania, and is presently growing roots in North Carolina.

Three years ago, I asked Leah to be a beta reader for my Julie Mitchell series. She has been such a fan! She’s read each book several times, always asks when the next one is ready, and gives me great feedback. Leah (and the hope of having many young readers) is the reason I keep writing!

I have lived in over 30 houses, 13 of them since college. In one town I lived in 4 different houses!

I once stumbled—literally—upon the body of a dead man on the beach.
